My story
I spent years chasing the next build, the next system, the next version of success, and every time, life found a way to remind me what actually mattered.
I remember the alarm going off at 4:30 a.m., still dark outside. I'd drag myself to a construction site, work from 6 to 4, drive an hour to college, then get home with a few minutes for Natalie, my wife, before crashing. It was a life-sucking routine.
So I did what anyone does when they need to vent: I met my buddy Taylor for coffee. "You should do sales," he said, and I laughed. "Yeah, I'll come work for you." Except Taylor was a REALTOR, and as soon as the words left my mouth, we both went quiet. Actually, why not?
I got my license in 2012, and the relief was almost immediate. Scary, yes, leaving a steady paycheck with a mortgage hanging over my head. But I found my footing. My days slowed down. I had time for Natalie and a growing family. I thought I'd figured it out.
Then I was invited to become director of operations at a luxury brokerage, and I loved it: finding inefficiencies, solving systems problems, hiring and training agents. Somewhere in that excitement I stopped focusing on my own business and started focusing on everyone else's. Then the layoff came, right after Natalie gave birth to twins and right after I'd bought a bigger home. We sold the house to make ends meet and moved in with our parents, newborns included.
I rebuilt, told myself I'd learned the lesson, and followed the same pull again. By 2025 I was the sole owner of SURV Real Estate, and I grew it from 11 agents to 53 while still representing buyers and sellers. By every outside measure, success. Inside, I was running on fumes, and my three kids and Natalie deserved more of me than they were getting.
So I gave the brokerage away. Not sold. Gave away. I didn't want the money. I wanted to be free. The moment I decided, a pressure I'd carried for years lifted.
This year has been a new beginning. Health first, our own food in the garden, real conversations with my kids. I feel like myself again. I've been laid off, moved back in with my parents, given away a business I built from scratch, and started over more times than I care to count. I've never been more at peace.
How I work
I approach real estate as an advisor, not a salesperson. One of the biggest financial decisions of your life deserves clarity and structure, and someone willing to tell you when the plan is wrong.
I study the market the way I used to study a jobsite: what's driving price, what the next two years look like, which neighborhoods are quietly changing. Then I take the time to understand what your family is actually trying to do, and we build the plan from there.
If you want a hype man, I'm the wrong agent. If you want the straight version and a clear path, call me.
